How long do my curtains need to be on my windows?

Always touch the floor with your curtains and hang the rod at least 4 inches above the top of the trim. If you have tall ceilings take them all the way to the ceiling it will increase the height of the room.

04

What are some picture hanging tips?

When you’re hanging a series of pictures together, keep the gap between 2” and 2 ½” to really utilize the wall space, and keep a minimum of 9” between the art and tops of sofas and chairs.

05

Is scale important?

Absolutely! Surprise the eye with scale. Use one large lamp with a large lampshade, or an oversize ottoman. One large-scale element takes a room up a notch.

Is lighting important?

Lighting is everything. It creates atmosphere, intrigue, and drama in a room. The easiest way to accomplish this is with a dimmer switch. I always use dimmers, even in the powder room.

06

How much space should I allow around my dining table?

Make sure you allow a minimum of 36 inches of space around your dining room table to give your chairs enough room to pull back. Nothing is worse than feeling cramped in a dining room.

07

Rugs, how large should they be?

Your furniture should sit on your rugs in your family room. Nothing shrinks a room faster than a tiny rug at the seating area. Best rule of thumb, keep 12” of wood showing around the perimeter.

08

How tall should end and bedside tables be?

Don’t use end tables lower than 30”. The lamplight will be much better and the proportion is better. Bedside tables should be 36”-38” tall. Don’t be afraid of tall tables and also tall lamps. I often see many lamps that are too short. It's difficult to read with it if it’s to short?
